Fifth seed Ons Jabeur’s quest for back-to-back US Open finals continues with a Monday fourth-round encounter against 23rd seed Qinwen Zheng. Ons Jabeur has looked a bit shaky in the last two rounds here. She has dropped a set in both fixtures and in the last round was forced to come from behind against Marie Bouzkova. The Tunisian has also had to win a tiebreaker in all three of her matches here. But as she made it to the final last season, she will be confident of a prolonged stay in New York. Jabeur lost to Zheng in their only encounter to date a year ago in Toronto. She was forced to retire in the second set. The 29-year-old is having a superb 2023 season and has won 27 of the 38 matches she has played. Nine of her victories have come in her 14 outings on hard court. Jabeur finished as runner-up at Wimbledon for the second successive season and has also won one tour title. She is currently down one place to sixth in the live ranking.

Qinwen Zheng has also dropped a set in her last two rounds here. She defeated Lucia Bronzetti in three sets in the last round. Her 28th win of the season allowed her to advance to the fourth round at Flushing Meadows for the first time. Zheng is making her second appearance at the US Open. The Chinese number one is ranked 23rd in the WTA and has compiled a 17-9 record on hard court. She has won the majority of her victories on the surface, however, the highlight of her season came on clay. Zheng won the Palermo Ladies Open in July to record her first-ever tour title. She will hope to double her advantage over Jabeur and advance to the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the first time. The winner in this game will next play either second seed Aryna Sabalenka or 13th seed Daria Kasatkina.
