Ons Jabeur made a good start to her clay court season, reaching the final in Charleston for the second year in a row. Seeded seventh in Stuttgart, the Tunisian takes on Daria Kasatkina for a place in the quarter finals. The winner of this match takes on either second seed Paula Badosa or Elena Rybakina in the last eight. Jabeur won seven clay court titles on the ITF Circuit and has made it to the fourth round at Roland Garros in each of the last two years. Before her good run in Charleston, Jabeur had made it to three hard court quarter finals. This is her fifth match against Kasatkina and the score between them is 2-2. Kasatkina won the first two in 2016 (Jabeur served for the match) and 2018 but the two most recent matches played last year were both won by Jabeur. This is their first meeting on clay. Jabeur had a tough first round match, beating Marketa Vondrousova after losing the first set. A good win though as Vondrousova is strong on clay and played well in the Billie Jean King Cup last week.

Daria Kasatkina is world ranked 26th which is the position she held at the start of the year. The Russian won six clay court titles on the ITF Circuit in 2014 and 2015. Her only final on the WTA Tour was in Charleston five years ago. This year began well for her with two semi-finals in Melbourne and Sydney. Progress since then has been hindered by the fact Kasatkina keeps getting drawn against Iga Swiatek. Three times that has happened and Kasatkina has won just 11 games, The good news for her is that the new world number one is in the other half of the draw in Stuttgart. Kasatkina had a good win in the first round with a straight sets victory over Cori Gauff. Go for Jabeur to get the win in this match, a tie break looks a strong possibility.
