It seems lately that every time Coco Gauff begins a tournament, she's at her highest ever position in the rankings. That will happen again in her next event due to this run to the last 16 at Roland Garros, where she faces Ons Jabeur. The 17-year-old is currently 25th in the world but started the year in 46th. A win here will see her heading into the top 20, how long before she breaks into the top ten? In terms of ranking points earned this year she's already there. Before Roland Garros began, she was ninth on that list and live rankings have her up to seventh. Recent weeks have seen her piling up the points with a semi-final in Rome and winning the Emilia Romagna Open title in Parma. Gauff has reached the fourth round in Paris without dropping a set with wins and beat 13th seeded Jennifer Brady in the last round, dropping just one game before her opponent retired in the second set. The American has had three previous matches against her opponent. The first two were won (one on clay) but the most recent was lost on clay in Charleston.

Ons Jabeur is one place behind Gauff in the world rankings. A win here will see her climbing above her opponent in the rankings. Her live ranking is 23rd at present, that's one place higher than her previous highest ranking. The Tunisian has a decent record here having also made it to the fourth round last year. A win here will see her in only her second Grand Slam quarter final, the other being in last year's Australian Open.

Jabeur has won one title this year, that being the MUSC Women's Health Open in Charleston, though her opponent in the final, Astra Sharma was ranked outside the top 100, She got another win over Sharma in the second round of this tournament. Other wins have come against Yulia Putintsove and Magda Linette in round three. The latter saw her lose set one but then drop just a single game in the other two sets. This match against Gauff could go either way. It's the American who looks to be in the best form though and can win this.
