Top seeded Ons Jabeur faces unseeded Anastasia Potapova in round two of the San Diego Open. The winner of this match will take on either a wild card or sixth seeded Veronika Kudermetova in the last eight. Jabeur is seventh in the latest ranking list and had a bye through to the second round of this outdoor hard court tournament. The Tunisian can move up to sixth if winning this match against Potapova. This is only her third tournament since being beaten in the Wimbledon final. A quarter final was reached in Cincinnati and the last 16 in the US Open. One title has been won by her this year, that was in the USA when winning the Charleston event but that was played on clay. 

This is the first match for Potapova against Jabeur. The Russian is world ranked 27th and that's six places below her career high achieved in May of this year. Potapova has not been in good form in recent weeks hence her fall in the rankings. Coming into this San Diego Open, the 22-year-old had only won one of her last six matches and that was over a player ranked outside the top 160. The US Open saw her beaten in the first round by Clara Tauson. Potapova will hope to return to the kind of form that saw her win the hard court tournament in Linz seven months ago. The first round of this tournament saw her take on Alycia Parks and had to go to a final set to get the win. We tip Jabeur to get the victory in this match.
