Petra Martic is the sixteenth seed in the Australian Open Women's Singles. She has a tough draw with a possible match against Shelby Rogers in round two and if she makes it to the last sixteen, number one seeed Ashleigh Barty is her likely opponent. First she has to get past qualifier Olga Danilovic in this first round. Martic is ranked 19th in the world and has only once reached a Grand Slam quarter final. That was in the 2019 French Open but the best she's achieved in Australia is the fourth round three years ago. Last year saw her beaten in the second round here. She went on to reach the third round in Paris and fourth in New York. 2020 saw her get to two semi-finals in Dubai and Italy. This year has seen her take part in just one tournament in Melbourne. That saw her beat Vera Lapko (currently ranked 299) before losing to her possible second round opponent here, Shelby Rogers in straight sets. 

Olga Danilovic is ranked 183rd in the world and had to qualify to get into this main draw. The Serb has just turned 20 and this is her first appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament. Her previous best performance in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third qualifying round at Wimbledon in 2019. Her highest ever ranking was 96th in October 2018. She took part in the same Melbourne tournament as her opponent but lost to Greet Minnen from Belgium in straight sets. Last year saw her get to a couple of quarter finals in second-tier events. This is a stiff task for her but at least reaching the first round is a big step for her. Go for Martic to win this in straight sets.
