Third seed Lorenzo Musetti will battle unseeded Nuno Borges in the second round at the 2024 Estoril Open. The winner will then play either Jurij Rodionov, Cristian Garin, Joao Sousa, or Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals. Nuno Borges defeated Lucas Pouille in three sets in the first round. He came back from losing the first set 6-0 to power his way to a 13th win of the season. It was his first outing on clay this year. Borges has had a shaky campaign so far alternating between the tour and challenger circuits and has been defeated nine times. Though he has claimed a challenger title already (Phoenix), Borges’ highlight of the season was in Melbourne. The Portuguese number one produced a fourth-round finish at the Australian Open which is his best-ever result at a major. Borges, who is up to 60th in the live ranking, has never gone past the second round in Estoril.

Lorenzo Musetti is having a turbulent season and arrives for this event with a losing record. The Italian has been defeated nine times in 16 outings so far. He will hope switching to a surface he favours will spark a season turnaround. Musetti is an excellent performer on clay and has won over 100 matches on the surface in his career. The 22-year-old, who has won just three times in his last nine fixtures, is coming off a fourth-round exit in Miami. Musetti starts his campaign in Estoril having moved up one place to 24th in the live ranking. The two-time tour champion has six times in the nine tournaments he has competed in, failed to move past the second round.
