Third seed Carlos Alcaraz will take on the unseeded Nuno Borges in the third round of this year’s Australian Open. The winner of their second career meeting will advance to play Jack Draper or Aleksandar Vukic next. Below is our prediction for this match.

Nuno Borges was in strong form in the second round against 27th seed Jordan Thompson. The Portuguese number one outdueled the Australian in straight sets to continue his strong start to the year. 

He has now won six of seven matches this year and is placed 34th in the live ranking. Borges is defending 200 points won in his run to the fourth round last season. 

Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz is seeking to become the youngest player in the ATP to complete the Career Grand Slam. The only major the Spaniard is yet to win is the Australian Open. 

Last year in his third appearance in this event, he produced a tournament-best quarter-final finish. Alcaraz, who is yet to relinquish a set in Melbourne, defeated Yoshihito Nishioka by the loss of just five games in the last round. 

The world number three defeated Borges in their only previous encounter in straight sets two years ago on clay in Barcelona.
