Top seed Novak Djokovic continues with his Paris Masters campaign on Thursday, battling unseeded Tallon Griekspoor in the third round. Djokovic defeated Tomas Etcheverry by the loss of just five games to extend his current winning streak to 14 matches. The Serb has made the final in his last four tournaments and has come out victorious three times. As the record title holder in Paris, Djokovic will be confident of another triumph here. Djokovic has won six titles in Paris and has also played in a record eight finals. The 36-year-old has won both meetings with Griekspoor with the latest coming earlier this year in Dubai. Djokovic is assured of remaining as the world number one whether he triumphs here or not. This is after Carlos Alcaraz’s shock elimination in the second round. The two were in contention for the ATP number one spot.

Tallon Griekspoor put up an exquisite display to get through his second-round tie. The Dutchman defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina by the loss of just four games. Griekspoor is making his main draw debut in Paris and has advanced this far in a Masters tournament for the first time. This has allowed him to move up to 21st in the live ranking which is a career high placing for him. Griekspoor has won 12 of the 17 matches he has contested on indoor hard courts this year. He has struggled in his career against top 10 ranked players. But with Alcaraz crashing out to a relatively unknown player, Griekspoor could fancy causing an upset of his own. The winner of this match will then play either Holger Rune or Daniel Altmaier in the quarterfinals.
