Third seed Novak Djokovic is back at the Qatar Open and will begin his tournament against the unseeded Matteo Berrettini. Their fifth career meeting will be in the first round with the winner playing Jan-Lennard Struff or Tallon Griekspoor next. Below is our prediction for this match.

Novak Djokovic is ending a six-year hiatus from this tournament. The Serb has an excellent record in this tournament.

He is a two-time Doha champion and in 17 matches contested, has only twice failed to win. Djokovic is ending a three-week break since his last outing.

The world number seven, who has won seven of nine matches, hasn’t played since retiring injured in the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

Matteo Berrettini has never won against Djokovic. He has lost all four of their matchups with the most recent setback being at the US Open in 2021.

The Italian will be eager to end Djokovic’s winning run against him and also spark a season turnaround. Berrettini, who has never finished beyond the second round in Doha, has lost three of his four matches.

Currently, on a two-match skid, Berrettini was ousted from the Rotterdam Open in the first round in his most recent outing. This slow start to the season has seen him drop to 35th in the live ranking.
