Top seed Novak Djokovic takes on the 11th seed Alex de Minaur in the Monte Carlo Masters quarterfinal. Possible opponents in the last four include Casper Ruud, Ugo Humbert and Hubert Hurkacz. This outdoor clay court Masters 1000 tournament is only the third singles event Djokovic has played this year. He may be the world number one but he's yet to win a tournament in 2024. The last four was reached in the Australian Open but only the last 32 at Indian Wells. Djokovic is a two-time champion in Monte Carlo but it's nine years since he last won the title. This is the first time in four attempts that he's got past round three in Monte Carlo. Sometimes he can be a bit more fragile than usual as this is his first clay court tournament of the year. 2024 has gone well so far with straight sets victories over Roman Safiullin and Lorenzo Musetti. He's 1-1 in previous meetings with de MInaur but this is their first match on clay.

Alex de Minaur had never got past round two of this tournament before this year. He's best known for his results on hard courts and has been in excellent form this year. The Australian is up to ninth in the live rankings. As far as the ATP Live Race goes, he's in fifth place and a win over Djokovic will take him up to fourth. He has a lot to prove on this surface though. De Minaur hasn't got past the second round at Roland Garros and is in his first clay court Masters quarterfinal. He's had to win three matches to get to the last eight. Only one set has been dropped, the first against Tallon Griekspoor in round two. The last round saw him beat fellow Australian Alexei Popyrin in straight sets. Now he faces a much stiffer task and we go for Djokovic to win in straight sets.
