Brazil faces European champions Norway in the last eight of the women’s Olympic handball tournament. Norway are bidding to win their fifth straight match. Let's look at the two teams and make our prediction for this Olympic quarter-final match.
Norway won four of their five games in Group A to finish top above Sweden and Denmark. In eight previous Olympic appearances, the lowest place in which Norway has finished is fourth. They won the gold in 2008 and 2012 and the silver in the last two Olympics.
Their only loss so far in this tournament was in their opening match against Sweden. Since that defeat they’ve won four matches in a row against Denmark, South Korea, Slovenia and on Saturday they defeated Germany.
With a goal difference of +30 (+34 in their last four games), they are going to take some beating in this Olympic tournament. The winners of this match face either Denmark or the Netherlands for a place in the Olympic final.
Brazil are in the Olympic quarter-finals for the first time since 2016 when hosting the Games, They finished fourth in Group B with two wins and three defeats in their five matches. The reigning South and Central American champions began their Olympic campaign with a 29-18 win over Spain.
They then led Hungary by three goals in their second match, but ended up losing by a one-goal margin. Two more defeats to France and the Netherlands followed with a combined goal-margin of 13 goals. A win was needed in their final group match on Saturday and that’s what they managed to get.
The Brazilians beat Angola 30-19 to book their place in these quarter-finals Their last two matches against Norway have both ended in defeat. We see Norway getting another win here and defy a handicap of -7 goals.
