Second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and the unseeded Nicolas Jarry will face off in the second round at the Halle Open on Wednesday. The winner here will advance to the quarterfinals to play either ninth-seed Alexander Zverev or unseeded Denis Shapovalov. Nicolas Jarry started the week up 15 places at number 28 in the live ranking. This is the highest he has been in his career and it is all down to his superb form. The Chilean has compiled a record of 26 wins and 10 losses so far which has resulted in two tour titles. He will hope this form is extended on the grass court. Jarry played his first match on grass since 2019 on Monday, defeating fellow unseeded player Corentin Moutet 2-0. Wednesday’s match will be the third between Jarry and Tsitsipas and the second on grass. Both players have each claimed one win with Jarry winning the only encounter on grass in Hertogenbosch back in 2019.

Stefanos Tsitsipas evened out the series with Jarry earlier this season in Monte-Carlo and will be confident of achieving the result again. The Greek number one has been in terrific form in 2023. He has won 32 of the 42 matches he has played. The current world number five has however not been as fortunate as Jarry in winning a title and has lost his two finals. To reach this round, Tsitsipas dug deep to defeat Gregoire Barrere, coming back from a set down to win 2-1. This was his first win on grass this season after he lost his opener in Stuttgart. Tsitsipas has never gone past the second round in Westfalen and has lost in this stage in both his previous appearances.
