Nick Kyrgios had become one of those players better known for his tantrums than triumphs. That's changed this year and if he beats ninth seeded Jannik Sinner, the unseeded Australian will be in his second consecutive quarter final. Throw in a Grand Slam men's doubles title and Kygrios is enjoying a successful 2022. He began this tournament ranked 102nd in the world but is up to 93rd in the live rankings. In terms of ranking points earned this year, he's up to 46th place which is pretty good considering this is only his third singles tournament of the year. Kyrgios reached the second round of the Australian Open but lost in four sets to Daniil Medvedev. He didn't play another singles event until Indian Wells where he beat Casper Ruud, had a walkover against Casper Ruud and then lost to Rafa Nadal in three sets in the quarter finals. His good form has continued this week in Miami with three straight sets wins. He's beaten two seeds, namely fitth seeded Andrey Rublev (losing just three games) and then the 31st seed Fabio Fognini, losing only six games.

Jannik Sinner is the ninth seed for the Miami Masters and began the tournament ranked 11th in the world. The Italian won his first seven matches of 2022. Three came representing Italy in the ATP Cup (though no top 50 ranked players were beaten) and he then made it to the quarter finals of the Australian Open, losing in straight sets to Stefanos Tsitsipas. Another quarter final was reached in Dubai and he made it to the last 16 at Indian Wells but pulled out of his scheduled match against Kyrgios due to illness. Hopefully this time he'll get on court but it's the Australian who is our tip to get to the last eight where he'd meet either Francisco Cerundolo or 26th seed Frances Tiafoe.
