The 2023 MLB season is underway and we have an intriguing afternoon east coast battle with the New York Yankees hosting the Philadelphia Phillies. The Yanks have had an OK start to the new campaign, going 2-1 against the Giants to kick things off before splitting the first two games of this three game series with Philly. New York stormed out to an 8-1 win in game one but were unable to keep the bats hot in game two, slumping to a 4-1 defeat. Yankees ace Gerrit Cole takes the mound here for his second start of the season after a phenomenal outing on opening day. Cole pitched six near perfect innings, giving up only three hits and striking out an impressive 11 batters. It’s a great sign for Yankee fans who will be feeling World Series or bust this season after their team exited the 2022 postseason in the ALCS to the eventual champion Astros. 

On the other side, Philadelphia will be desperate to get a win here after a tough start to the new season. The Phils have come out of the gates slowly with only one win from their first five games. The visitors got swept 3-0 by the Texas Rangers in the first series of the season, giving up a cringe-inducing 27 runs in the first two games alone. Starting pitcher Aaron Nola will try to get back on track after a tough outing in the season opener. The 29-year-old righty lasted only three and two-thirds innings in his first start of the season, giving up four hits, two walks and five earned runs. This is a tough spot now for Nola and the Phillies who will have to face off against one of the league’s hardest hitting teams in the hitters’ park that is Yankee Stadium.
