New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB
by Joseph King | in MLB Predictions
Baseball’s biggest rivalry is ignited yet again when the AL East’s third-place New York Yankees take on the fifth-placed Boston Red Sox. Both teams will be desperate for the win as the series is tied at 1-1 in the first series of the season between these historic foes. The Red Sox took the first game by a score of 3-2 as the underdogs on Friday. The Yankees would respond yesterday with a 3-1 victory for only their second win in the last five games. The AL East is the toughest division in baseball at the moment so each win against division rivals carries with it added significance. The Yankees have 38 wins and a .582 winning percentage but trail the first-place Rays by 8.5 games. Boston, meanwhile, sits just below .500 with 32 wins and 33 losses for a 14 game deficit behind the division-leading Rays.
Taking the mound for New York is Clarke Schmidt who has posted a 2-6 record on the season with an ERA of 4.96. Schmidt had a tough start to the season but has put together a string of very effective starts in his most recent outings. The 27-year-old righty has allowed only six earned runs in his last 21.2 innings pitched. In addition, Schmidt has proven effective making batters miss, registering 66 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched total. The Yanks will also have to cope without the instant offense generated by Aaron Judge. The former MVP is on the sidelines with a toe injury and it’s still unclear when he’ll return to action.
Boston will send out Brayan Bello as the starting pitcher who is 3-4 on the season with a 3.97 ERA. Bello is coming off a six-inning, three earned run performance in his last start but was unable to get sufficient run support as his Red Sox team suffered a 4-1 loss. The three runs allowed in his last outing was the most he has given up in the last seven starts as the 24-year-old has done an excellent job at keeping teams off the scoreboard in general.

Our New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox Prediction
These two starters have both been pitching quite well in recent appearances despite their less-than-ideal records. Brayan Bello in particular has been very effective this season at limiting opponents scoring potential and keeping those run totals down to just one or two in his recent starts. With the Yankees Clarke Schmidt also in a fairly strong run of form, we expect both pitchers to come up with solid showings here in what should be a low-scoring affair. The first five line here takes the bullpens out of the equation and lets us focus on the starting pitching matchup. Our New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox prediction is for under 4.5 runs to be scored in the first five innings.
