The New York Rangers host the Carolina Hurricanes at Madison Square Garden for this NHL Metropolitan division matchup in the Big Apple. The Hurricanes currently sit atop the Metropolitan division with a superb record of 45 wins, 15 losses and eight overtime defeats for a total of 98 points – the second highest in the entire NHL. They’re looking to get back on track after a difficult stretch has seen them lose three of their last five games. The Canes were able to prevail over the Flyers with a 5-4 overtime win their last time out and will now play the final leg of a three game road trip before heading back home to take on the Rangers again in a double header two days after tonight's matchup. Carolina has a slim one point lead over the Devils for the top spot in the division and lead their opponents today by six points as we approach the end of the regular season.
The Rangers come into this one looking to close the gap on the division leaders with a win. New York has been on a roll as of late, winning its last four consecutive games following a dominant 7-0 win over the Predators on Sunday. The win was the second consecutive shutout that the Blueshirts have posted after they were able to hold the Penguins scoreless in a 6-0 win when the two teams met on Saturday. The Rangers will be looking for another dominant defensive performance as they have the chance to close out their five game home stand with a perfect 5-0 record before heading to the PNC Arena in North Carolina for an away matchup with the Hurricanes. New York is currently third in the Metropolitan division and holds a sizable 12 point lead over the fourth-place Islanders in the race for the top three spots which grant a playoff berth.
