The New York Rangers host the Calgary Flames at the world’s most famous arena Madison Square Garden in New York City for this Monday night NHL matchup. The Rangers come into this game looking to build some consistency after trading a win for a loss in their last seven games. The Blueshirts are coming off an excellent 4-1 home win over Vegas before the all-star break and will look to continue the positive momentum which has seen them win their last two outings in front of the home crowd. The Rangers sit third in the Metropolitan division with a record of 27 wins, 14 losses and eight overtime defeats for a total of 62 points. They still sit someway behind the first-place Hurricanes who lead the division with 76 points. New York will hope to close the gap on their tri-state rivals New Jersey with a win here as they currently trail the Devils by five points in the standings.
Calgary comes into this matchup in the better form of the two teams as they seek their fourth win from the past five games. The Flames are coming off a 5-2 away win over the Kraken to push their record to 24 wins, 17 losses and nine overtime defeats on the season. This gives the visitors a points total of 57 and places them fifth in the Pacific division. Despite their division placement, the Flames only trail first-place Seattle by six points and they can go a long way to narrowing the gap on some of the other Pacific teams with an away win. Calgary has stepped up their road play in recent trips and has now ripped off three wins from their last four road games ahead of their clash with New York. They’ve managed 10 wins, eight defeats and seven overtime defeats on the road so far.
