With only a few games remaining in the MLB regular season, the New York Mets find themselves in a must-win game when they host the Washington Nationals at Citi Field. A hugely disappointing string of results over the last week for the Mets saw them relinquish the lead in the NL East after being swept by the defending champion Atlanta Braves in their most recent three game series. As a result, New York’s current record of 98-61 sees them sitting two games behind the Braves with only three games left on the schedule. They’ll likely have to win out while hoping that the Braves slip up in the run-in if they are to win their division for the first time since 2015.

The Mets will be bitterly disappointed with their performance against the Braves in the most important series of the season up to that point. However, they are presented with an excellent chance to rebound here against a Nationals side that is 29-49 on the road and has only managed three wins in their last 10 games.
