New York Mets vs San Francisco Giants Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB
by Joseph King | in MLB Predictions
Sunday night baseball in the MLB sees the NL West third-place San Francisco Giants heading east to take on the NL East fourth-placed New York Mets. This is the third and final game of this three game series with both teams having taken a game. San Francisco got off to a good start in this series with a 5-4 win on Friday before dropping game two by a score of 4-1 last night. The result means that the Giants have managed to win only two of their last five games as they slip to third in the division behind the Dodgers. San Francisco now trail division leaders Arizona by 3.5 games and sit a half game behind the LA Dodgers for second-place. They’ll start this game with Ross Stripling on the mound although this looks likely to be a bullpen type of game for the visitors. Stripling has appeared in 10 games this season but only five of them have been as a starter. His most recent outing saw only one earned run allowed and three strikeouts in three innings of work.
On the other side, the home team Mets were able to put an end to a three game slide with their game two win over the Giants. There is still a lot of work to do if New York is going to be a playoff team as they sit a massive 18.5 games behind the Braves in the NL East. They also trail the Giants by nine games for the final Wild Card spot making the games against San Francisco must-win encounters. New York has won only three of their last 10 overall but have at least been able to put forward better performances at Citi Field. The Mets are 18-27 on the road but have a .500 record at 19-19 when playing in front of the home fans. The Mets will send out David Peterson to the mound for this clash with the 27-year-old sporting a 2-6 record with a 7.00 ERA on the year. While it’s undoubtedly been a rough year for Peterson, he did look good in his most recent outing. The lefty pitched six innings of shutout baseball on his way to a 7-2 Mets win.

Our New York Mets vs San Francisco Giants Prediction
This is a good matchup for New York starter David Peterson. The lefty has struggled this season but he is coming up against a Giants team that has been below average this season at hitting left-handed pitchers. For the Giants, they’ll likely fancy their chances here as well despite looking like they are going to be deep into their bullpen for this game. San Francisco has one of the strongest bullpens in the NL and should be able to limit this Mets offense that has been struggling. Our New York Mets vs San Francisco Giants prediction is for under 9.5 runs.
