New York Mets vs Milwaukee Brewers Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB
by Joseph King | in MLB Predictions
The struggling New York Mets take on the Milwaukee Brewers for the first of a four game series in the Big Apple. The Mets sit fourth in the NL East while the Brewers are second in the NL Central and are battling the Reds for the top spot.
It’s been a difficult season for the New York Mets so far. They’re seven games below .500 as things currently stand and trail division leading Atlanta by a sizable 15 games. New York is coming off another disappointing loss in their most recent outing. They sacrificed a three-run lead late against the Phillies, giving up four runs in the eighth to ultimately lose 7-6. New York has now lost six of their last nine following three straight 2-1 series losses to the Cardinals, Astros and Phillies. The Mets will send out Justin Verlander to the mound to make his 10th start of the season. The 40-year-old has a 2-4 record on the year with an ERA of 4.50. Verlander has experienced his struggles this year with his highest ERA mark in the past 10 seasons. However, the three-time Cy Young award winner has been markedly better at Citi Field with a 3.24 home ERA compared to 5.67 away. Verlander’s last start resulted in a seven inning, four earned run performance in a game that New York would lose 4-2 to the Astros.
The Brewers come into this contest following a 5-4 away win over the Guardians. Milwaukee has been trading a win for a loss in their last six outings, going 3-3 over that stretch. They find themselves just a half game behind division leaders Cincinnati meaning a win here would put them on matching records. Colin Rea gets the start for the Brewers and will be hoping to come up with a better performance than his previous two appearances. The big righty is 3-4 on the year with an ERA of 4.88. Rea got rocked for eight earned runs in his last 10 innings of work while only managing to strike out six batters during that time. The 32-year-old is struggling to make batters miss at the moment which doesn’t bode well for a Mets team that has been able to put runs on the board lately.

Our New York Mets vs Milwaukee Brewers Prediction
There’s a clear pitching advantage for the Mets here with Verlander coming up against Rea. Verlander’s numbers at Citi Field have been solid and we should see another strong home performance from him here. Colin Rea likely won’t be receiving much run support as his team’s offense ranks towards the bottom in most statistical offensive categories. They certainly won’t get any favors here either coming up against one of the game’s all-time greats. Back the home team to win this one. Our New York Mets vs Milwaukee Brewers prediction is for the Mets to win.
