New York Mets vs Houston Astros Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB Spring Training
by Joseph King | in Baseball Predictions
Spring training continues in Major League Baseball as the coaches and players look to tune up before opening day on April 7th. Our matchup today sees the World Series runners up Houston Astros take on a New York Mets team that are expected to make waves in the upcoming season. This should be a good preview for two championship caliber teams despite the fact that it’s a preseason game. Houston’s spring training record is 6-4 and after dropping the first four consecutive games, the Astros have now ripped off six straight - giving them the longest current active winning streak. Their last outing was a 3-1 victory over the Nationals. The Mets are coming off an impressive 10-0 win against the Marlins in their last game and hold a solid spring training record of 6-3, giving them the second best record in the Grapefruit League.
Jose Urquidy is expected to take the mound for the ‘Stros. The 26-year-old Mexican pitcher is coming off a strong regular season which saw him go 8-3 with an ERA of 3.62 and has proven to be a solid piece in Houston’s starting rotation. On the other side, the Mets are expected to put Carlos Carrasco out there as the starting pitcher as the 35-year-old enters his 13th professional MLB season and his second with the Mets. Carrasco’s first season as a Met was disappointing and he certainly didn’t make a good impression in his 53 innings pitched, posting a 1-5 record with an ERA of 6.04. Carrasco will need to start strongly for New York this season as fans are surely worried if the veteran still has enough gas left in the tank to be an effective player for them.
