The New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers meet for the second of a home-and-away back-to-back Wednesday in the NBA. After a blowout 109-91 loss on their home court last night, the Cavs now take to the road to face the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Cleveland got Donovan Mitchell back in the lineup but his 26 points wasn’t enough for the Cavs to overcome a number of injuries to key players. The absence of Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland is becoming painfully noticeable as Cleveland has now fallen to 1-3 on the season. After edging by the Nets 114-113 in their season opener, the Cavs are currently on a three-game losing streak. They’ll now attempt to stop the bleeding away in New York before returning back to Cleveland to face the Pacers. Cleveland couldn’t get into a rhythm last night as they shot 39% from the field and an ugly 26% from three.
New York’s dominance over Cleveland continues with their win on Tuesday night. After eliminating them from the playoffs last season, the Knicks have now won their last four in a row vs the 2016 champions. They return to MSG as sizable favorites to make it five in a row as they look to improve their record to 3-2 on the year. New York was able to shoot 44% from the field in their away win last night with the trio of Barrett, Randle and Brunson combining for 54 points. They also got a boost off the bench with Immanuel Quickley chipping in 18 points and Isaiah Hartenstein adding 13. New York finished last season as the fifth seed and accumulated a home record of 23 wins and 18 defeats. They’ve lost their only other game at the Garden so far this year, an opening night loss to Boston.
