The first Sunday Night Football game of the new NFL season sees a classic NFC East rivalry with the New York Giants hosting the Dallas Cowboys. Both of these teams made the NFL playoffs last year and the fan bases will each be expecting another trip to the postseason.

The Cowboys have legitimate Super Bowl aspirations with many bookmakers listing them at around the sixth favorites. Dallas had a strong regular season in 2022, finishing with 12 wins and five losses in what wound up being the best division in the NFL. They finished second in the NFC East, coming up just short of the first-place Philadelphia Eagles who finished with the co-best record at 14-3. The Cowboys would defeat Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round but ultimately lose to the 49ers in the Divisional round. Dak Prescott will be the main man for Dallas yet again this season. The 30-year-old QB is supported by talented offensive weapons such as CeeDee Lamb and Tony Pollard. 

The Giants overachieved last campaign after finishing with nine wins, seven defeats and one draw in the regular season. This would earn them their first playoff appearance since 2016 and was the first time the team finished with a winning record in six years. The Giants would then go on to upset the odds in the Wild Card round, earning a 31-24 win over the higher-seeded Vikings. Their run would end in the Divisional round, however, as they suffered a blowout loss to rivals Philadelphia. Despite an overall successful season, the oddsmakers aren’t expecting New York to build on those results. They come in at roughly 50/1 odds to lift the Vince Lombardi trophy, odds which place them in the bottom-half of teams.
