New Jersey Devils vs Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction & Betting Tips - NHL
by Joseph King | in NHL Predictions
An Eastern Conference matchup in the NHL sees the New Jersey Devils hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Prudential Center in Newark. The Devils are still in the race for the top spot in the Metropolitan division as they trail the first-place Hurricanes by only two points. New Jersey’s record of 41 wins, 15 losses and eight overtime defeats has them sitting second in the division with 88 points as they’ve now opened up a nine point lead over the third-place Rangers. The Devils are coming off a 5-4 overtime away win against Coyotes, their fourth win in the last five games and their second away win from the last three. The hosts have been in a strong run of form with seven wins, two losses and one overtime defeat in the last 10 games. The Devils have truly been one of the NHL’s elite teams this season as they rank fourth in the league for goals scored at 223 while also ranking fifth in the league for defense with only 170 goals conceded.
The visiting Toronto Maple Leafs take a slight rest advantage into this game with their last outing occurring on Sunday. Toronto does, however, have to deal with its fourth consecutive away match following their 4-1 defeat to fellow-Canadian side Vancouver in their most recent game. The loss was the Maple Leafs second in the last three games as they look to bounce back in this final game of a five game road trip. Toronto sits second in the Atlantic division with a record of 38 wins, 17 losses and eight overtime defeats, putting them on a total of 84 points. While they will not catch the runaway Boston Bruins, Toronto is comfortably in a playoff position as they hold a five point lead over the third-place Lightning and a massive 16 point lead over fourth-place Buffalo. The Leafs offense has really struggled in recent outings and has netted just five goals in the last three games. They’ll need to be better here but might come out flat, especially as the players likely look forward to returning back to Toronto for the first time in nearly two weeks.

Our New Jersey Devils vs Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction
With how the first two matchups between these teams went this season, it’s fair to expect another tight, relatively low-scoring affair here. These are two of the better defenses in the league and should be able to keep this one under the posted total of 6.5 goals. The Maple Leafs have not been scoring the puck well in recent games while the Devils will hope that a return to the Prudential Center will also bring a better performance defensively. New Jersey’s last game in this arena saw them shut out the Flyers and record a 7-0 win. Our New Jersey Devils vs Toronto Maple Leafs prediction: under 6.5 goals
