New Jersey Devils vs Philadelphia Flyers Prediction & Betting Tips - NHL
by Matthew Newman | in NHL Predictions
The early hours of Sunday morning will see the first of two games in the Stadium Series as the 27-22-4 New Jersey Devils host the 29-19-7 Philadelphia Flyers. The games will be played at Metlife Stadium, the home of the New York Giants and Jets of the NFL with the second on Sunday evening seeing the New York Rangers put their 4-0 unbeaten record in outdoor games on the line against the New York Islanders. There is always something special about outdoor games and both the Devils and Flyers will be desperate to pick up the two points that are on offer. It is defensively where the Devils have underperformed this season, a top 10 defence in goals conceded last season, they have slumped to 28th of the 32 teams this time around with their netminders combining for a .894 save percentage. They still have a strong team on the front end, in the top 10 for goals scored, but they have not managed to tally them when they need them most. That has been shown up of late, only conceding six goals in their last four games combined but they have managed to lose two of them. If they are to make a run at the playoffs again, they are going to have to start to put in a shift at both ends at the same time.
Things have gone well this season for the Flyers, overperforming in the main compared to where they were expected to be this season. The rebuild is well ahead of schedule with eight of their own first-round draft picks in the squad so they have done their homework to pick the right players and get them quickly up to NHL standard. The All-Star break came at the perfect time for them, losing five straight heading into the time off, winning four straight after it before falling to the Toronto Maple Leafs in overtime on the road in their most recent game. They are being led in points this season by Travis Konecny with 51, including 26 goals which is good for a share of 16th in the NHL. That includes nine points in his last five games as well as four goals scored in his last five against the Devils so he is going to be looking forward to the opportunity to do some more damage.
