New England Patriots have had a fantastic few seasons in the NFL with two wins in the Super Bowl and runners-up to Philadelphia Eagles last season. They are bidding to become only the third team to win the AFC Championship three years in a row. They face Los Angeles Chargers in this divisional play-off with Kansas City Chiefs awaiting in the final. Their season didn't get off to a great start losing two of their first three matches. Then they went on a six-match winning streak to go to 7-2 and take charge of AFC East. They eventually ended up at 11-5 for the regular season with all of their losses coming on the road.

Los Angeles Chargers finished second behind Kansas City Chiefs in AFC West. They'd love to win this game and get the chance of revenge on the Chiefs in the Championship match. They had a 12-4 record in the regular season, the first time they'd managed to win at least ten games for the season in ten years and the first since moving to Los Angeles from San Diego. Like their opponents they also lost two of their first three games but won the next six. Last week's wild card play-off game saw them  get the better of Baltimore Ravens. Only one of their defeats was away from home, but this is a tough challenge away to New England Patriots. Tom Brady will be a key figure for the Patriots and the QB has come out on top in both battles against his counterpart on the Chargers team, Philip Rivers. If he can do that again and he's on home territory, then the Patriots can win this.
