The 2023 Davis Cup enters the second round of group fixtures with the first-place United States taking on second-place Netherlands in Group D. With both nations experiencing a winning start in their first match, this round two encounter could very well decide which team tops the group.

 The USA will be out to finally put an end to their Davis Cup drought as it's now been 16 years since they last won the title in 2007. The Stars and Stripes are historically the most successful nation in this competition with 32 tournament wins to their name in the competition's 123 year history. The Americans have brought a strong squad to this tournament with 11th-ranked Frances Tiafoe and 13th-ranked Tommy Paul leading the way. They also have arguably the best doubles duo in the Davis Cup with world number one Austin Krajicek and fifth-ranked Rajeev Ram. The United States defeated Croatia 2-1 in their opener, despite Tiafoe losing to 77th-ranked Borna Gojo. The reliable doubles duo of Krajicek and Ram brought home the victory after Mackenzie Mcdonald secured a straight sets victory over Dino Prizmic in the first match.

The Netherlands are still seeking their first Davis Cup title. They got their 2023 campaign off to a strong start with a 2-1 win over Finland. After Botic Van de Zandschulp lost in the first match to Otto Virtanen, 24th-ranked Tallon Griekspoor would manage a straight sets victory in the second match. The doubles team of world number four Wesley Koolhof and 34th-ranked Matwe Middelkoop would seal the victory for the Dutch with a 2-1 win in the final encounter. The Netherlands largely did what was expected of them against a much weaker Finnish team. They’ll now face their first big test of the competition against the heavily favored United States.
