A fierce battle is on the cards this Saturday when Munster and Glasgow Warriors renew their United Rugby Championship rivalry at Thomond Park. The hosts made home advantage count in the quarter-finals as they blew away Ospreys 23-7 with Jack Crowley bagging 13 points. Warriors on the other hand got the better of the Stomers to record a 27-10 victory. Munster are one of the most in-form teams left in the competition after finishing top in the regular season. Their impressive run includes winning the last 10 URC matches since Connacht beat them on New Year’s Day. This string of impressive results is the Irish side’s best run since 2011. Munster have an equal balance in the semis of the competition winning six of the previous 12 Championship last four encounters.
Glasgow Warriors are looking to add to their only URC title for the first time since 2015 when they coincidentally beat Munster. Warriors posted a decent campaign finishing fourth in the regular season and sharing points with third-placed Leinster. Their record in the semi-finals does not bode well, winning just three of the last nine encounters. Signs of hope however are that all three victories were in their last five fixtures at that stage. Another source of inspiration for them also is that last season they ended their nine-year wait for victory at Thomond Park. The Scottish side will hope that Johnny Matthews is at his best after winning the top try scorers gong. In doing so he became the first Warriors player to finish as the league’s leading try-scorer since 2009.
