It’s time for the Indian Premier League’s El Clasico as the Mumbai Indians gun for revenge against the Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. This will be fixture #38 of the IPL 2025 season and will be played at the Wankhede Stadium, which comes with our prediction of a win for Chennai.
Both these teams are in the bottom four of the points tally, with CSK sitting bottom with four points and MI seventh with six points. A win for the Mumbai Indians could push them up towards the top four, while a win for Chennai will see them join the mid-table logjam.
Mumbai prevailed by four wickets over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday at this venue, in a low-scoring thriller, where their bowlers used the tacky surface to their advantage.
Playing at Wankhede gives them an edge, as two of Mumbai’s three wins this season have come here. SKY and Tilak Varma remain their best batters, but the lack of bowling support to Hardik Pandya (11) is a worry.
Chennai are also coming off a win, a thrilling five-wicket win over Lucknow on Monday. That result ended their five-game losing streak, while their only other win of the season came against Mumbai in their first match of the campaign!
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury left them with few choices, as their batting remains the focus point.

Our Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings Prediction
Slow starters Mumbai Indians seem to have found their mojo recently, winning their last two fixtures. Two of their three wins this season have come at the Wankhede, which should give some energy to the stands this weekend. The sight of eternal rivals CSK will further boost interest among the fans, but Mumbai’s record in this fixture isn’t great. They were beaten in six of their last seven matches against Chennai, including the reverse fixture. This could be another surprise from the Yellow Army, and our Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings prediction is Chennai Super Kings wins the match.
