Corentin Moutet will play fellow unseeded player Jordan Thompson to begin his Indian Wells debut campaign. The winner of their first career meeting will advance to take on 12th seed Holger Rune for a place in the third round. Below is our prediction for this match.

Moutet is seeking to snap a three-match losing run. The Frenchman has had a torrid spell on clay and only managed to win one of four matches. He was defeated in three sets in the first round in Santiago in his most recent fixture.

Returning to hardcourt, a surface on which he has produced over 50 wins, will have him confident of returning to winning ways. Moutet, who has compiled a 3-4 record, will begin his tournament in 76th place in the live ranking.

Jordan Thompson is ending an almost two-month-long break from competitive play. The Australian hasn’t played since being eliminated from the Australian Open in the second round.

He has contested five fixtures so far and won three times. Thompson is making his fifth successive BNP Paribas appearance. 

In 2023, he produced his best-ever finish at this event after making it to the third round. Thompson, a four-time tour finalist, has moved up to 36th in the live ranking.
