Third seed Ekaterina Alexandrova will play qualifier Robin Montgomery as she continues her Libema Open title defence. They will battle in the quarter-finals with the winner playing Greet Minnen or Liudmila Samsonova for a place in the final. Robin Montgomery is having an exciting grasscourt season as she is yet to lose a match on the surface. The American began her grass campaign in the qualifiers in Hertogenbosch where she has won four straight fixtures. After eliminating eight-seed Magda Linette in straight sets in the first round, Montgomery showed more composure in her next match. This was against the unseeded Jule Niemeier whom she eliminated in straights to advance to this round. Montgomery, who made her grasscourt debut last season, is now seeking her first career tour semi-final. The 19-year-old has never won more than two matches at a tour event. The win over Niemeier improved her record to 23-11 and moved her a massive 25 places to 148th in the live ranking.

Ekaterina Alexandrova has won the last two editions of this WTA 250 tournament. She is therefore a huge favourite to emerge champion once again. The Russian lost just two sets combined in her two triumphs here. The first set was in the first round in her first triumph while the second was in last year’s final. This year, she has won both her rounds in straight sets. Arina Rodionova fell by the loss of seven games in the first round and then Emina Bektas by nine. Despite advancing to the last eight, Alexandrova has dropped four places in the live ranking to 20th. This is after she lost 226 ranking points. The 29-year-old has had a year filled with missed results. She arrived in Hertogenbosch while on a losing record but still had managed to record one final appearance and two semis. One of the semi-finals was in Miami which tied her best-ever result at a WTA 1000 tournament.
