Montenegro won their first match in Group D of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. They look to make it two successive wins when facing Egypt on Sunday. Montenegro are ranked 18th in the world. while their opponents are down in 55th place. The European side took on Mexico (world ranked 31st) in their opening match and ran out 91-71 winners. Two of the quarters saw Montenegro score just one point more than the Mexicans. The other two were won convincingly to get them off to a winning start. Chicago Bulls player Nikola Vucevic was their top points scorer with 27 points, 11 more than any other player in the match. The win means they have been the victors in three of their last four matches.
Egypt are the lowest ranked country in this group and will know they have a tough task to qualify for the second round. They are in their first World Cup since 2014 and had lost 34 of their 40 matches in tournament finals before this year. They took on Lithuania in their opening match and were beaten 93-67. The first quarter was lost by 14 points but the Egyptians won the next by two points. They couldn't continue their fightback though and lost the second half by 14 points. That was their fourth defeat in five games and we go for Montenegro to win this and cover a 17.5 point spread.
