Fifth seed Qinwen Zheng and 17th seed Mirra Andreeva will meet in the quarter-finals of the China Open. The two will clash on Friday in a first career meeting between them. Let’s look at the prediction for the match, from which the winner will play Aryna Sabalenka or Karolina Muchova next.

Andreeva has continued to show why she is the most talked about teenager in the WTA. The 17-year-old is having a tremendous season and has now progressed to her seventh tour quarter-final of the year.

Though she has lost more than she has won in this round, Andreeva has more than it takes to win this tie. The Russian, a semi-finalist at the French Open and winner in Iasi has compiled a 29-13 record.

She secured her first 2-0 victory in Beijing in the last round against Magda Linette. The win saw her break into the WTA top 20 and is now placed 19th in the live ranking.

After opening her Beijing campaign with two successive 2-0 wins, Qinwen Zheng played her first decider of the tournament in the last round. That was against 34th seed Amanda Anisimova who took the opening set of their fourth-round battle.

Zheng is also having a terrific season. She has won 40 matches a season for the first time in her career and has done so in just 54 outings. Zheng’s form this year has yielded a title in Palermo, a gold medal at the Paris Olympics and an Australian Open runner-up finish.

This has also been reflected in her world ranking. The Chinese number one broke into the WTA top 10 after her run in Melbourne. She is currently ranked seventh in the world and eighth in the Singles Race.
