An Eastern Conference matchup in the NBA sees the 1-0 Milwaukee Bucks hosting the 0-2 Atlanta Hawks. Following their season opening victory over Philadelphia, Milwaukee will now look to make it two in a row in the second of a three game home stand. The Bucks secured a 118-117 victory over the 76ers on Thursday. They’ve had two full days of rest since then so should be fresh and well-prepared for Atlanta coming to town. The Bucks dominated much of the offseason headlines with the acquisition of Damian Lillard from the Trail Blazers. The 32-year-old, seven-time All-NBA point-guard looked phenomenal in his Bucks debut, dropping 39 points to lead his team in scoring. The Bucks have a legitimate one-two punch now with the likes of Giannis and Lillard, as well as Milddleton providing an efficient third option. However, the 32-year-old Middleton has been ruled out of this game.
The Hawks are off to a tough start to the 2023/24 campaign. Their season started with a 116-110 away loss to the Charlotte Hornets before losing 126-120 in their home opener to the Knicks on Friday. They’ll now take to the road again for what will be their toughest test of the young season so far. Atlanta finished last season with a 41-41 record for the seventh-seed in the East. They would go on to be eliminated 4-2 in the first round of the playoffs. Atlanta have struggled shooting the ball from deep to start the year. They managed a meager 17.2% from deep in the first game although improved to 37.5% in the second game. For a team that averaged just 31.1 three point attempts last season (25th in the NBA) they’ll have to improve in that area if they are to have a shot against the current NBA title favorites.
