Eighth seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime takes on qualifier Mikael Ymer in the Paris Masters second round. The winner of this match faces either ninth seed Taylor Fritz or Gilles Simon in the last 16. Auger-Aliassime is attempting to win his third tournament in a row. He's up to sixth in the live rankings (a rise of two places) and in the same position in the ATP Race. A win over Ymer will all but confirm his place in the Tour Finals being held later this month. The Canadian has had title wins in Antwerp and Basel, the latter including a win over world number one Carlos Alcaraz. He's won four titles this year and two of those were at the 500 series level.
His opponent had to qualify to get into the main draw of the Paris Masters. The Swede won his two qualifiers without losing a set. That took him into the first round where Ymer beat Alexander Bublik in three sets, losing the middle on. He began this week ranked 74th in the world but is up to 70th after reaching the second round in Paris. Recent weeks have seen him in good form with a semi-final in Florence followed by a last eight appearance in Stockholm but he didn't beat a top 30 ranked player in those tournaments. There's been one previous meeting with his opponent. That was at Wimbledon last year with Auger-Aliassime winning in four sets. Go for the Canadian to win this and to do so without dropping a set.
