This weekend, we head to the Kaseya Center in Miami for UFC 314, where the co-main event of the night will see Michael Chandler taking on Paddy Pimblett in the lightweight division. 'Iron Mike' has a pro record of 23-9-0, while Paddy 'The Baddy' is 22-3-0. Let’s get into the match prediction.
Michael Chandler is set to step back inside the Octagon in a pay-per-view for the first time since November last year at UFC 309, where he was beaten by Charles Oliveira by unanimous decision.
That match exposed issues with Iron Mike’s takedown defence and stamina, and also marked his fourth defeat in his last five matches. However, the one positive was that he kept swinging even while evidently gassed in the final round.
Still, at 38 years of age, the former Bellator champion has devastating striking power as we saw against Tony Ferguson and Dan Hooker, and has earned 11 of his 23 wins by KO/TKO.
Meanwhile, Paddy Pimblett has been on a tear in the lightweight division and enters this bout following a submission victory by triangle choke over King Green at UFC 304 in July last year.
That victory was The Baddy’s eighth in succession, dating all the way back to August 2019, while he also picked up four Performance of the Night bonuses during his winning run.
In almost complete contrast to Chandler, Pimblett is arguably the best systematic grappler in the division at this moment, with 10 of his 22 career victories coming by way of submission.
