An all National League East contest on Sunday as the Miami Marlins take on the Washington Nationals. There have been some sizeable players leaving Miami over the course of the winter, none more so than Jorge Soler who hit 36 home runs in South Florida last season. That is a hole in the lineup to fill so they are going to need a strong season from Josh Bell. They have picked up Tim Anderson from the White Sox who is an interesting addition as he is more than capable of hitting for plenty of average which will see him fit in well with Luis Arraez at the top of the order. Jon Berti is one of the speediest players in the game so expect to see the Marlins aggressive on the bases. 

The Nats finished bottom of the division last season, 13 games behind the Marlins. Joey Gallo has been brought in to add some fire to the lineup but fans will have to accept the huge volume of strikeouts that goes with him being on the team. In a similar vein to the Marlins, the Nats have plenty of speed to utilise at the top of their order in front of the likes of Joey Meneses who had a breakout season in 2023. There is plenty of experience to be had in their starting rotation led by Patrick Corbin but he is a good few years removed from being the ace that he once was. The Nats look set to struggle again and are liable to prop up the rest of the NL East once more.
