The first game of Tuesday’s MLB slate sees an NL East battle with the third-place Miami Marlins hosting the second-place Philadelphia Phillies. This is the second game of a current four game series between the two division rivals. Philadelphia took the first matchup by a score of 4-2 to give them a slim half game lead over Miami in the standings. Their record of 57 wins and 49 losses moves them into one of the three available Wild Card spots in what is shaping up to be a congested race for the postseason. The win over the Marlins snapped a two game losing run for the Phillies and also brought their road record to .500 on the year. Philadelphia will send out Ranger Suarez to the mound who is 2-5 on the season with a 4.22 ERA. The lefty pitcher has struggled in the month of July and is coming off a six inning performance which saw him give up four earned runs.

On the other side, Miami will attempt to move back into second-place with a win in game two of this series. The loss in their last outing was the second defeat suffered in the previous three games for the Marlins who have won just four in their last 10 overall. However, they’ve been one of the better-performing home teams in the league this season. Miami’s .600 winning mark at home is just slightly behind the Dodgers for the third best in the National League. The hosts will start this game with Sandy Alcantara who is 4-9 on the year and is sporting an ERA of 4.46. The 27-year-old reigning Cy Young award winner has struggled for consistency this season but put forward one of his best starts of the season in his last appearance. Alcantara pitched a complete game, one earned run, seven strikeout performance in a 7-1 Marlins wins against a tough Rays team.
