A place in the wild card round looks likely for the New England Patriots. They are fifth overall in the AFC but climbing into the top four is a difficult task. The Patriots should be able to win this match away to Miami but fourth placed Buffalo are a short price to beat the New York Jets and Cincinnati have won their division. New England have a 10-6 season record, just as the Bills and Bengals have. They are second in the AFC East behind the Bills but it's Buffalo who look booked to win the division up against the 4-12 Jets. The Patriots have at least improved on the 7-9 record they had last season. That didn't look like happening after four of their first six matches were lost. Seven straight wins changed all of that though before losses to Indianapolis and more importantly, Buffalo. New England hammered Jacksonville 50-10 last week and now look for revenge on Miami. The two sides met in the first week of the season with the Dolphins winning by a single point.

Miami are third in the AFC East with an 8-8 season record. They are already out of contention for a place in the postseason after having a very strange season indeed. That opening win over New England was followed by seven losses in a row. They then made history by becoming the first team to lose seven straight games and then win seven in a row. That took them to 8-7 but last week their run ended when beaten 34-3 by the Tennessee Titans. It's the fifth successive year in which they have failed to make postseason. That leaves them with little to play for in this match. The same could be said of the Patriots if Buffalo get a good lead over the Jets. New England won't want to lose another game against a side in their division and can get the win here.
