Two struggling teams meet for this Wednesday NBA matchup as the West’s 13th-place Memphis Grizzlies face off with the East’s 13th-placed Charlotte Hornets. Memphis comes into this game with a 23-43 record following their 109-97 home win over the Wizards on Tuesday. The victory put an end to a two-game losing streak for the team and also marked their third win in the last five games overall. It’s been a tough season for Memphis who have been pounded by injuries and suspended players all season. Their most recent game saw them deal with a massive 13 missing players after their usually available All-Star Jaren Jackson sat out with  a knee injury. Despite a lineup of mostly role-players which included two players on 10-day contracts in the starting lineup and one more player on a two-way contract, Memphis would still beat the Wizards by double-digits. It was only the Grizzlies’ eighth win in front of the home fans this season as the hosts  have been a much better road team this season.

After putting an end to a six-game losing streak against the Brooklyn Nets last Saturday, the Hornets were dropped right back into the loss column on Monday. A 114-97 defeat to the Detroit Pistons marked Charlotte’s 49th defeat of the 2023/24 season with the team only having 16 wins to show for. Similarly to their opponents today, Charlotte have also had their share of injury problems. The main missing piece is point-guard LaMelo Ball who is looking more and more like  he might not be able to return this season with each missed game. Without Ball, the Hornets are just 9-34 on the year and his absence is a large reason as to why Charlotte ranks 29th in adjusted offensive rating. The visitors are 7-26 on the road this season and have won just two of their last 10 overall.
