The first round of the Miami Open sees McCartney Kessler face Marie Bouzkova. Both players are unseeded and the winner will be up against the 30th seed Linda Noskova in round two of this outdoor hard court tournament. Here's our match prediction.

Kessler is the world number 48 but 46th in the live rankings and that is a new career-high for the American. In the Live WTA Race, Kessler is in 20th position after making a strong start to 2025.

The 25-year-old won the Hobart International in January and recently made it to the final of the ATX Open in Texas. Her most recent tournament was in Indian Wells and Kessler lost in round two to Aryna Sabalenka, but took the world number one to a tie-break in the first set.

Marie Bouzkova won the only previous match played between these two players. That took place last July with Bouzkova winning in three sets. The Czech is at 50th in the latest rankings but is only 64th in the Live Race.

A quarter-final was reached in Brisbane by the 26-year-old. However, since then three first round defeats have been inflicted on her. The most recent defeat was a first round loss to Suzy Lamens at Indian Wells.
