Laslo Djere and Maxime Cressy, both unseeded, will begin their Wimbledon campaign with a first-round showdown on Tuesday. The winner here will next play the winner of the tie between 32nd seed Ben Shelton or lucky loser Taro Daniel. Cressy has found the going tough in 2023. The American has lost double the number of matches he has won. He has compiled an 8-16 win-loss record and arrives for this tournament after his second-round elimination in Eastbourne. This will be his third main draw match at the All England Club. He will hope he does enough to progress past the second round for the first time. Cressy and Djere have played each other twice before and have each won once. They have never battled on grass before. Cressy starts the week having dropped 42 places to 100th in the ATP live ranking.

Laslo Djere defeated Cressy the last time they met, which was last season in Monte-Carlo. He will hope he makes it back-to-back wins with this latest encounter. The Serbian arrives for his sixth Wimbledon appearance after his second-round finish in Halle. He has had a topsy-turvy year thus far but has fared way better than Cressy. Out of the 35 matches he has played, he has been victorious 19 times with two of those wins coming on grass. Djere’s highlight of the season came in the Challenger circuit when he made the final in Cagliari. The 28-year-old isn’t a strong performer on grass and has managed only five wins in his 17 matches on the surface thus far. He is currently ranked 65th in the live ranking.
