When you try to get into the main draw and fail that's usually the end of the road. Not for Australian Max Purcell who did just that but now takes on Lorenzo Sonego in the semi-final. The world number 283 was given another chance as a lucky loser and has made the most of it and then some. Purcell is ranked 43rd in the doubles but just like Barbora Krejcikova is doing well in the singles as well. He can move into the top 200 if winning this semi-final. This week has seen him beat James Duckworth in three sets and then defeated top seeded Gael Monfils in the next. The last eight saw another three-setter ending in an evntual win over Andreas Seppi.

Lorenzo Sonego is one of only two seeds left in this tournament. He's seeded third and ranked 27th in the world, just 256 above his opponent. He's had a good year and a win here will see him up to 14th in terms of ranking points earned this year. His title win in Cagliari and last four in Rome (where he took a set off Novak Djokovic) have been major contributors but both were on clay. This week has seen him get wins over John Millman and eighth seed, Alexander Bublik. Both of those wins came in straight sets. His serve is extremely powerful, something always useful on this surface. He can get the win here.
