Taylor Fritz will start his quest for a second Indian Wells title on Saturday, when he takes on Matteo Gigante. These two are clashing in the second round, a match that will produce an opponent for Dusan Lajovic or Alejandro Tabilo. Read on for our prediction.

World number four Fritz lost in the round of 16 at Indian Wells last season. He will be looking to go further, seeking to add to his 2022 title.

The third seed has, however, had a slow start to 2025 exiting early at the Australian Open and Dallas before gracing the Delray Beach quarters. Playing on home soil favors him mostly and he will hope it rubs in at the BNP Paribas Open again.

Gigante ranks more than 100 places below Fritz and will come here as a clear underdog. He had to wade through the qualifiers to book a main draw slot.

In the first round he produced a three-set win over Sebastian Baez. Playing at Indian Wells for the first time, Gigante will be looking to claim a major scalp in round two.

Majorly a Challenger player, the Italian will hope his earlier matches have prepared him enough for the big task ahead. He arrives for a first ever meeting with Taylor Fritz having compiled a 7-5 record in the season.
