12th seed Taylor Fritz has a difficult second round match in the US Open. The American faces unseeded Italian Matteo Berrettini for a place in the last 32 of this hard court Grand Slam. Read our match prediction.

Fritz is a Junior US Open winner but on the senior tour has only got past round three in New York on one occasion. That was last year when reaching the quarter-final. He'll hope to go deep again this year.

He's reached the last eight in both Australia and Wimbledon this year but is still yet to play in a Grand Slam semi-final. His form coming into this tournament wasn't great but he's had tricky draws against Sebastian Korda and Brandon Nakashima.

Fritz has won two ATP Tour titles this year. One was on grass at Eastbourne but earlier in the year he won the Delray Beach hard court tournament. He's 13th in the live rankings but tenth in the ATP Race.

Matteo Berrettini has to beat Taylor Fritz for the first time to reach round three. He's met the American on three previous occasions and lost each match. All of them were played on hard courts.

Berrettini is up to 42nd in the live rankings after beating Albert Ramos Vinolas in round one. The first set was won by Berrettini on a tie-break but he only lost five games in the next two played.

Two years ago he was as high as sixth in the rankings but has had several injury lay-offs. He was a semi-finalist here five years ago with two quarter-finals since. This year has seen him win three clay court tournaments on the ATP Tour.

Hard court form has seen him lose in the last 64 in Cincinnati to Holger Rune. We tip Fritz to win this.
