Matteo Berrettini and Tallon Griekspoor, both unseeded, will play face off in the opening round of the Rotterdam Open. The Monday match will be their first career meeting, and the winner will play Stefanos Tsitsipas or a yet-to-be-revealed qualifier next. Below is our prediction.

Berrettini is having a slow start to the year and will be keen for a deeper run in Rotterdam. The Italian has won just one of his three matches so far. The victory was achieved in the first round of the Australian Open.

Berrettini hasn’t played since being eliminated in the second round in Melbourne. The two-week break will do the world number 33 some good. He has earned 36 indoor hard-court victories in his career.

Griekspoor has qualified for the semi-finals in his last two appearances in Rotterdam. He will hope this is the season that he finally gets over the hump. 

The Dutchman has compiled a 2-2 record to start the year. Both of his victories have come on indoor hard courts. 

He is coming off a quarter-final finish in Montpellier. That enalbled him to move up three places and into 43rd in the live ranking. 

Griekspoor has won close to 70 matches on indoor hard courts in his career.
