Matteo Arnaldi is the 29th seed for the hard court Shanghai Masters. He received a first round bye and now faces qualifier Zachary Svajda in the last 64. Here's our match prediction.

Arnaldi will want to repeat his recent performance against Svajda at the US Open. The pair met in the first round of that hard court Grand Slam, only losing six games in the three sets that he won.

The Italian is at 36th in the live rankings which is six places adrift of his career-high. His most recent tournament saw him knocked out of the Japan Open in the first round by Tommy Paul. He'll find this a lot easier.

His best recent performance on this surface came in Montreal. He made it to the last four of that Masters event, eventually being beaten by Andrey Rublev.

World number 131 Zachary Svajda had to win two qualifying matches to get into this main draw in Shanghai. The American had few problems doing that with only five games dropped in his two victories.

That took him into the first round and the 21-year-old beat Adrian Mannarino but did blow hot and cold. He won the first set, won only one game in the second but then stormed through the final set 6-0.

Svajda had lost three straight matches before the start of this tournament. His best run in ATP Tour hard court events this year has been a semi-final in Acapulco. We tip Arnaldi to win this in straight sets.
