Marco Trungelliti bids to cause another upset in the Barcelona Open clay court tournament. The qualifier takes on unseeded Matteo Arnaldi, who like his opponent also knocked out a seed in round two. For the winner of this match, there's a quarter-final against either third seeded Casper Ruud or 14th seed Jordan Thompson. Trungelliti is 197th in the latest rankings and had to qualify to get into the main draw of this ATP 500 tournament.  He managed to win his two qualifiers but needed three sets to get past Pablo Llas Ruiz in his first match. Now he's in his first main draw of an ATP Tour event this year and going well. Round one saw him beat Duje Ajdukovic in straight sets and he followed that up by beating the ninth seed Nicolas Jarry without dropping a set. His four wins so far have taken him up to 176th in the live rankings, still 64 places below his career high.

Matteo Arnaldi is 40th in the ranking list published on Monday. His career high is 35th and he'll be hoping to beat that and get into the top 32 and be seeded at Roland Garros. The Italian is up to 38th in the live rankings after his two wins in Barcelona. The first round saw him beat Arnold Cazaux in straight sets. Then he caused a surprise in round two with a win over the eighth seeded Sebastian Baez. That was a tough match as he had to come from behind to get the win. A victory over Marco Trungelliti will take him into his second quarter-final of the year, the other being in a hard court event held in Brisbane in January. There's been one previous match against Trungelliti That was on the Challenger Tour last year with Arnaldi winning in straight sets in a match played on clay.
