Bernarda Pera is still on course to win a second successive title. The American takes on seventh seeded Maryna Zanevska in the semi-finals of the Hamburg Open. Pera won the Budapest title last week with seven matches won as she had to qualify to reach the main draw. No sets were lost in that event and it's the same story this week. Pera has beaten sixth seeded Elena-Gabriela-Ruse (who was the defending champion), Joanne Zuger and Katerina Siniakova, all for the loss of just ten games. Ten successive wins have seen her ranking climb from 130th to 65th in the live rankings. Win number 11 in this streak will see her get into the top 60.

Maryna Zanevska may be the seeded player but began the week ranked 72nd. She's actually down to 97th in the live rankings due to points about to be lost from a title win in Poland this time last year. The Belgian (she was born in Ukraine) hasn't been in form of late and had lost her last five matches before this tournament began. She flourished last July with that win in Poland and a semi-final the week before, so obviously likes clay courts. Earlier this year, Zanevska got to a quarter final and semi-final on this surface. Problems were had in the first round of this tournament as she had to come from behind to beat Viktorija Tomova. Since then, two matches have been won in straight sets, including beating fourth seeded Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the last eight. The two players have had a couple of previous meetings and are level at 1-1. Pera won five years ago and Zanevska won this year in Doha when her opponent retired when a set and 3-0 down. Pera has come on in great strides and is the tip to win this.
