Maryna Zanevska is seeded seventh at the Hamburg Open. She takes on qualifier Alexandra Cadantu-Igniatik for a place in the quarter finals. Zanevska began this week ranked 72nd in the world. That's ten places lower than the career high she achieved in May of this year. It's not been an easy time for her of late. The Belgian came into this tournament having lost her last five matches. That included first round losses at Wimbledon and Roland Garros. Her clay court form has had its moments this year though. Zanevska reached the last four in Saint Malo and a quarter final in Strasbourg. Her first round match nearly produced a sixth straight loss. She lost the first set to Viktorija Tomova but rallied to win the next two for the loss of seven games.

Alexandra Cadantu-Igniatik is 172nd in the latest ranking list. The Romanian was outside the top 200 at the start of this year but was 59th in 2014. The 32-year-old last reached a WTA Tour final ten years ago and has never made it past the second round of a Grand Slam. Most of her time is spent on the ITF circuit and ten singles titles have been won on clay, the last one being in 2020, her first in five years. 2022 has seen her win an ITF hard court title in Egypt. A tough match was had that day as she won in three sets after losing the first set 6-0. Two qualifying matches had to be won to get in the main draw of this tournament.
